After graduating with an Accounting degree from University of North Texas in 1975, I immediately took an opportunity as an accounting manager for a manufacturing company in Mineral Wells. Within 2 years I was presented a once in a lifetime chance to work in Nigeria, Africa as a Controller/Administrative Manager. This gave me the wonderful chance to travel abroad. Two years later I returned to Texas and through the mid 1980's built and ran my own real estate company. This venture proved very profitable into the late 1980’s. As the Savings and Loan crisis struck the real estate market I made a quick decision to go back to the profession I always had a passion for, helping people save money on their taxes.
I enjoy golf even though I am not very good at it but my true love is traveling. I have been in a canoe hand fishing in the Niger River. I camped out and slept in a hammock on the shores of the Amazon at the Peruvian/Colombian border. I been on a tiger safari in India riding an elephant. I dog sled at the northern border of Sweden and Finland. Chased on land by a 14 ft crocodile in Costa Rica. All told, I been to over 30 countries. When I’m not handling activities outside the house I spend time with my lovely wife Diana and our daughter Jennifer, which keeps me busy. Jennifer graduated from UNT and helped start the current public practice in 2008. After getting things off the ground Jennifer pursued new opportunities but has recently returned as our practice has grown and her skillset was perfect to enable yet further growth.
My goal in the future is to travel again and ultimately retire. My wife and daughter are from Koln Germany and we look forward to spending more time there. Having worked and traveled in many different countries, I have found many I enjoy being in.
For now I want to continue to deliver the best tax and financial services possible and hope that you will give me the opportunity to prove why I have been voted the “Best Accountant in McKinney” for the last 11 years in a row and counting.
Miranda Crowell, MS MBA
Miranda Crowell, Senior Tax Consultant, has been with John Harman, CPA PLLC since November of 2014. During her time with John Harman CPA PLLC, she has had the responsibility of strategic tax planning, strategic business structuring, preparing tax returns for individuals and small businesses, small business bookkeeping, payroll processing and reporting, and monitoring accounts payable and accounts receivable. Her experience with John Harman CPA PLLC has enabled her to hone in on her financial reporting skills as well as staying current on the tax laws.
Miranda is recently graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a dual MS(MSA)/MBA degree. She has met all the requirements placed by the State of Texas to be eligible to take the CPA exam and will do so in January 2019. Miranda also has a Bachelors of Business Administration focused in Accounting from Texas A & M, Commerce.
Outside of her work and studies, Miranda has a husband, Joshua, and two children, Ayden and Keeley, who keep her busy. Together they enjoy all aspects of the outdoors including target practice, riding four-wheelers and dirt bikes, swimming, cooking out with family, and participating in little league football and cheerleading.
Kevin Dias, CPA MBA
Partner - Tax Operations Manager
Kevin joined the firm in January of 2017. Starting his career at local CPA firms in the Dallas area, Kevin quickly specialized in the tax field, both preparation and planning.
After working in the CPA firm environment for a while Kevin then spent 22 years in the Tax Software business where he held various positions, including tester, developer, support manager and Six Sigma Black Belt. Kevin went on to work for Capital One in a Process Improvement role for a couple of years prior to deciding to return to his roots in Public Accounting.
Kevin has a BS in Chemistry from the University of Bombay, and an MBA from Baylor University. He is a Six Sigma Certified Black Belt and a CPA licensed in Texas.
Kevin has been married for 28 years to Clare and they have 2 grown children, Matthew and Christina. Outside of work he enjoys, jazz, biking, working out and travel.
Haley graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in May 2018. She majored in actuarial science and minored in finance, statistics, and economics. She started working for John Harman CPA in June 2018.
Haley moved to Texas from Illinois after she graduated. Outside of work she enjoys spending time outdoors with her dogs Mikey and Wrigley.
Sarah Cox, EA
Senior Tax Consultant
Sarah graduated from Southern Methodist University in 2009 with a degree in Political Science. She has 9 years of bookkeeping experience and 6 years of tax experience. She has worked with a wide variety of bookkeeping, payroll, and both personal and business tax issues. Her most recent experience was at another CPA firm.
Sarah has been married to her husband for almost 8 years. She loves being a mom and spending time with her family. In her spare time, she likes to travel to different places. Of all the places she has visited, Scotland has been her favorite.
Rick Downing, EA
Senior Tax Consultant
Rick graduated from Southern Illinois University with a B.S. in Engineering and SMU with an M.S. in Engineering and a Minor in Business Management. He is currently enrolled to practice befor ethe IRS. Rick has over 8 years of experience in the public accounting industry.
Susan Elliott, CPA
Senior Tax Consultant
Susan obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in both Texas and Arkansas and has over 20 years of experience in public accounting. Her professional experience includes tax preparation for individuals, corporations, partnerships, fiduciaries, and non-profit organizations. She also worked on audit teams during the early years of her career auditing a variety of entities including financial institutions, universities and for profit companies.
Susan uses her broad base of technical experience and outstanding organizational skills to help clients with complex business structures involving multiple legal entities as well as the small business owner with tax planning strategies and implementation.
Susan and her husband, Sam, (not the actor Sam Elliott) are native Arkansans. However, they love their adopted Texas home and have lived here since 2000. They are active in their church and enjoy serving there in various capacities. They have four very smart and sports-active sons. Two boys are still at home, so much of their free time is spent attending their sporting events.
Stephanie joined the Harman team in February 2018 after having run her own bookkeeping and payroll service for almost 20 years. She has over 30 years of experience with accounting and payroll in a variety of industries making her a great addition to the Harman team in February 2018.
She enjoys learning about each client's unique business needs while being committed to making their experience as smooth and as positive as possible through meticulous work.
In 2011, Stephanie put down her roots in the great State of Texas and started calling Dallas her home, after living in California, Colorado and Illinois. She has two wonderful grown sons and enjoys exercising with her dogs and burying her nose in a good book when she has free time.
Diana has been with John Harman, CPA PLLC since November 2017 as an administrative assistant. She has the responsibility of ensuring all tax returns are filed with the Internal Revenue Service.
Diana graduated from Collin College with an Associate of Science degree and is currently taking continuing education classes to develop her skills in bookkeeping and Quickbooks.
Diana is Texas born and raised and lives in McKinney with her fiancé, Ricky Wallace. In her free time, Diana enjoys fishing, traveling and spending time with her family and dog, Marley.
Bethany Frazier, EA
Bethany obtained her B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting online from Thomas Edison State University (NJ) while working in the accounting and public accounting industries. In February of 2020, she passed the required exams and was Enrolled to practice before the IRS.
With six years of accounting experience, over three of those in public accounting, Bethany has received training and gained experience in the following areas and more:
Her personal life is an energetic mix of rock climbing, hiking, and traveling. She shares a great love story with her husband Anderson and together they like to hit the back roads on their motorcycles (figuratively). They have an energetic puppy and attend a loving church where they spend time with friends and family.

Whitney joined the John Harman CPA team in November of 2014. She has continued to grow within the company and is currently learning QuickBooks and tax during the off-season. She enjoys working with our clients and helping assist them with their tax and accounting needs. Her joyful and positive outlook on life is a warm welcome to all our clients.
Whitney has a beautiful little girl born in February of 2017, Stella Whitt. They enjoy crafting, riding bikes and swimming together. Whitney also likes to spend her free time doing yoga, photography, and educating herself in the holistic approach to life. She has one dog, Hollie and two ferrets, Brandit and Luna. Her hands are full!!

Wendy joined John Harman’s team in January 2012. She brought with her a background in Mortgage Finance, Management and Tax Preparation. Tax Preparation quickly became Wendy’s passion and she has spent the last 15+ years being devoted to the preparation of personal and small business tax returns. Wendy was a trusted partner assisting John during the growth of the firm and two office moves. With her attention to detail and extensive knowledge of the IRS tax code, she provides outstanding and professional tax service. As the senior tax professional in the office, Wendy trains and mentors junior members of the team, and is responsible for reviewing returns to assure accuracy.
Wendy is happily married to Ed and has two grown sons, Blake and Bret. She enjoys traveling and adventuring with her family, gardening, decorating and photography.
Senior Accountant QuickBooks Certified Pro Advisor
Rita is a valuable part of John Harman’s accounting team assisting him in growing his practice from the ground up. She manages many of John’s top clients by performing accounting and payroll professional services. Her focus on client satisfaction provides clients with exceptional service in every interaction. Rita has over 21 years of accounting experience, 15 years of tax experience and is a QuickBooks Certified Pro Advisor. This expertise has contributed to the value and exceptional service she provides her clients. She has assisted multiple organizations in creating their accounting department and/or helping improve existing company resources, such as software and staff members, which increased organizational efficiency and effectiveness.
Rita is a proud parent and grandparent. She is active in the children’s ministry at her church, and the middle school orchestra for her youngest daughter which allows for various additional volunteer opportunities.
